Gluten Free Buzz- Don't be sad for me! :)

It's ok friends and family I am ok without Pizza and Italian food. (i can still drink the wine) Besides I had enough to last me a lifetime in College- thanks to Gary's.

When I told people I was gluten free, the look of horror on their face said they thought I had some Rare Disease. I want to assure everyone I'm better than ever and it's not a massive adjustment.

When I chose to go gluten free, it was after I had worked with a professional nutritionist Jackie Slavin of Functional Wellness and we had exhausted a whole novel worth of ideas and nothing helped, so I tried to avoid gluten. Sources of gluten?

Pizza tastes delicious but after I ate it I would get bloated- I mean really bloated, my gut hurt, to the point I would prefer to stand then sit and if I was at home I would lie down. Yikes not good.

An hour later I would be hungry!?!

If I ate products with gluten in them, at night I would wake up at 2:00 am on the dot with a stomach ache so bad I wanted to hurl- I didn't but I would chug the pepto. Yikes not good.

The gluten free hubbub was after I stopped eating process food in general. I walk the outside of the grocery store and have been doing that for 9 years. So no partially hydrogenation soybean oil, no high fruitose corn syrup, enriched anything! Gross- look at the packaged food and it makes you sick to think about all the unknown chemicals in the food. No wonder people are sick and fat.

So the Gluten thing. I felt great and lost a little bit of weight. I hate the phrase "Gluten Free" I just choose to eat better non- processed foods.

What I found interesting is that people were very concerned for me? Their concern was not that I have an allergy to gluten, it was that I couldn't eat pizza or Italian food.

It's ok everyone, I'm fine- I really don't miss it. It was really the tomato sauce that I liked, pasta is tasteless. So, I have created my own pasta sauce and I put it on veggies. I never buy the sauce because of the sugar and chemicals in that as well.

The other interesting conversations I noticed about the gluten free idea was the influx of gluten free products. Bless the hearts of all the people who offered suggestions about gluten free foods but the true point was missed. Gluten free foods contain more chemicals just not the gluten. Yuk.

I just eat, veggies, fruit and protein. I'm happy and healthy and shopping is quick.

If it comes in a package- look at the back- you might need to run for the pepto when you read whats in the food you eat.

Hopefully this article does not feel preachy and I hope you do the best for your health- it's up to you.

2. I intend to continue down the path of believing and feeling that all my goals and dreams can come true and it's up to me to attract what I want in life, not what I don't want.

3. I intend to continue to focus on good health more specifically doing yoga, meditation and enjoy my healthy eating habits

4. I intend to allow life's stress to wash over me and not be absorbed into my mind and body.

Ok that should do it for now. All is well!

My body changed 8 years ago-here is how it started and now it's changed!

My troubles and changes started happening to my body 8 year ago.

1. I gained weight, a significant amount for someone who works out 5-7 days a week. My workouts are skiing, hiking, biking, snowshoeing, walking and weights.

2. My skin changed, it became more dry, my forehead would be filled with zits for months and then one morning I would wake up with nothing? It happened that fast.

3. My eye lids would become bright red, itch and swell up. The pressure hurt my eyes and made them eye balls dry.

4. Got hives on my torso. It didn't happen all the time but frequently.

5. Patches of my hair would fall out. I would one notice a small bald spot on my scalp and then it would progressively get bigger. Then one day little hairs would start to grow?

6. I gained more weight

7. Stopped sleeping well, one night would be great and the next would be a flip flop fest or I would not fall asleep until really late and be exhausted the whole next day.

There were more changes but those are the main ones.

The blogs posts following this list are all the steps I took to make life better for myself, physically. Without health we have nothing and this process was challenging. I struggled for years about what to do with these issues and why I did not feel better. At this point, I feel as if I had a break through and I wanted to share what I have done.

I hope this helps people get better and try some of things I tried that were successful.

Going Gluten Free

Have you ever eaten dinner and felt bloated full? Do you wake up in the middle of the night with an upset stomach? Problems staying regular? Heartburn often?

I have had all of these issue for several years.

My health has always been a priority and I have worked to stay active and eat healthy. So to have these issues, really was hard on me physically and mentally.

I have seen more doctors than I care to think about at the moment. Not one of these "professionals" ever really took the time or my concern for my health seriously. I finally dropped the western doctors avenue and talked with a women called Jacqui Slavin. Her business is Functional Wellness. She is young, vibrant and has a broader view of health and healing. She was willing to talk with me and invest as much time as needed to solve my issues.

When I began working with her she took what I said and wrote it down. A complete change from previous experiences. She listened to what was ailing me and did not dismiss it. That alone made me feel better.

Several interviews later, we started with different blood tests to chip away at the cause of specific issues. I was in the works to take another test when she suggested that I try something before we moved forward.

At this moment, what Jacqui did understand about my body was that I had a lot of inflammation. That is an expansive term when talking about the body, but she suggested that one of the quickest ways to clear some of that up is to go Gluten and Dairy Free to see if some of my problems were related to that.

Are you kidding me? I am going to be one of those gluten free bandwagoneers! ugh!

So, I decided after a long process of understanding some specific issues I was having with my health, I would try. It was either this of another blood test. I really didn't have much to lose by trying.

My biggest concerns was that it was going to be a huge pain and inconvenience.

I was wrong. It was much easier than I had realized. I just cut out pasta and pizza along with a little bread. A few things caught me off guard like sauces. Steak sauce in particular has high fructose corn syrup as well as wheat.

The results were noticeable right away. Most of the time when I ate I would have that bloated-full feeling. I was always uncomfortable and felt the need to move and stand after I ate. Often I chose to lie down. It was terrible.

It was not the amount of food I was eating either because I would eat very little and feel full and bloated. When I stopped eating gluten that full-bloated feeling went away! I felt like you are supposed to after eating- good with more energy.

The next thing I noticed was being able to go to the bathroom on a regular basis. Some times I would go for days but now I am consistent.

Waking up in the middle of the night with an upset stomach and having to drink gallons of Pepto to get back to sleep happened often. It was horrible and disturbing. Disrupting your sleep patterns like that is painful and it made me feel terrible on many levels of my health.

Once I cleared the Gluten from my diet I stopped waking up with an upset stomach.

This really has made a difference to my health! The last thing I noticed recently is that I can drink red wine now without getting heart burn and that does make me happy.

I am continuing to work with her on other things and this Gluten Free life so keep checking my blog for more information and personal stories.

Get Organized with a Professional Organizer

Do you want to spend more time with your children but stress out about the things you need to get done? Is your dining room table no longer available for you and your family to dine on and enjoy each other’s time? You are not alone!
There is someone who can actually help you with these issues, a professional organizer. A professional organizer is trained professional who learns to help people not only with the physical actions required to organize but also the psychological and emotional issues surrounding disorganization.
Why do you want to get organized? First, you will spend less time look for things around your house and spend that time doing something that makes your happy like playing with your kids. Losing valuable documents can also cause you to lose money. You can reduce your stress level by getting rid of that overwhelming feeling you have when you cannot accomplish all the things you need to do.
A professional organizer can also help with Time management and who doesn’t need help in that area.
Not sure if you are disorganized, read these common characteristics. If you accumulate large quantities of objects, documents, paper or possessions beyond apparent necessity or pleasure, you have difficulty parting with things and letting go, have a wide range of interests and many uncompleted projects, need visual clues as reminders to take action, tend to be easily distracted or lose concentration. These are just a few symptoms.
Take action and call a professional organizer. High Country Solutions and Ellen Galbraith can help. Contact her at Ellen@highcountrysolutions.com or 970-688-4822. Website is www.highcountrysolutions/com
